John Sleigh
- An experienced manager

- An effective trainer
The Manager
With over twenty years experience in the line and staff positions in the underground coal mining industry, John is one trainer who knows what life is really like at the “coal face”. For six years, until 1987, he was manager of one of the most productive coal mines in Australia - BHP’s Cordeaux Colliery. During his time as the senior executive on site, the team he led achieved outstanding records in productivity, innovation and safety. In 2007 He returned to coal face for a sabbatical as the safety and training Manager at Centennial Coal’s Tahmoor colliery. He now brings his expertise as a problem solver, negotiator, innovator and team builder to the seminars he presents for clients throughout Australia.
The Presenter
With his wide experience, John has accumulated a trove of stories. His conversational presentation style makes him the speaker whom other speakers come to hear. He has been an educational session presenter at conferences throughout Australia, conducted by organisations which include the Australian Institute of Management; Toastmasters; the Colliery Managers’ Association and the Australian Institute of Training and Development. He has also presented at institute conferences in the United States and New Zealand as well as at corporate conferences.
The Author
John has published three books of activities to add zest to training sessions: Making Learning Fun in 1990 and Making Team Learning Fun in 1993 and Learning With Style as an e-book in 2008. In these he shares the techniques and strategies that he uses to ensure that participants view training as an opportunity rather than a routine. A fourth book, What Can I say? will be published later this year. In this he provides techniques and resources for communicators and speakers.
The Trainer
He has designed and presented programs for a wide range of clients incuding Centennial Coal, BHP, WorkCover NSW, RailCorp and Teletech.
